Michael Deiderich, The Improv Guy talks about improvisation and success“I expected to be on another podcast show, all I can say is that I know Jeff and I should have known better!

As I started to share my failures and times of deep depression, I knew Jeff would take care of me and create a safe environment, but WOW, he’s so freakin’ good at this, he took me to places where I cried. We tend to bury these things, but he bought it all out of me. The thing that really got to me is when he said, “Michael, someone could be listening right now who’s in the same position” I never considered that and it moved me so deeply and I kept on sharing what it took for me to be successful.

Jeff Smith, you are incredible, you were born to do this, I love you man.”

However, after many years of theatre productions and tours, Michael still wanted more variation, and improv was the answer. He began performing with Boom Chicago in 1993 and in 2006 became a full-time improv actor.

During his time there he gave thousands of workshops, helped them improve their syllabus, created their Public Speaking programme, and helped them develop Interacting, their highly successful improv training for children with autism.

But after many years, Michael realized he was working extremely hard for a small portion of the profits, and was doing the majority of the work himself. With some encouragement from friends and mentors, Michael decided to take a risk in 2018 and go freelance. He is now working even harder, but now instead of a slice, he gets the whole pie!

This is going to be an interview where you will not believe some of the things that have happened to Michael, the depths of despair reinventing himself, and then finding his way to amazing success.
